Vascular Ultrasounds Near You

A vascular ultrasound helps your provider understand how well your blood is circulating through your body. Whether you’re being checked for a blockage, recovering from a procedure, or monitoring an existing condition, these scans give your care team the insight they need to move your treatment forward.

Here, your exam is performed by a registered technologist using high-resolution Doppler equipment. A board-certified radiologist reviews every study, and results are sent directly to your provider, often within 24 hours.

What These Scans Can Show

Vascular ultrasounds can assess both arterial and venous flow throughout your body. Your provider may order one of several types, including:

  • Carotid Doppler Ultrasound: Checks for narrowing or plaque in the neck arteries that supply blood to your brain.

  • Aorta Ultrasound: Evaluates the abdominal aorta for aneurysms or blockages.

  • Upper Extremity Scans: Examines the arteries or veins in one or both arms for clots or circulation issues.

  • Lower Extremity Scans: Looks at the arteries or veins in one or both legs to detect peripheral artery disease (PAD), deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or venous insufficiency.

Each exam measures blood flow, speed, and direction, helping your provider pinpoint where circulation may be restricted.

When You May Need One

Your provider may suggest a vascular ultrasound if you’re experiencing symptoms such as:

  • Swelling or tenderness in one limb

  • Coldness, numbness, or weakness in your arms or legs

  • Skin discoloration or wounds that heal slowly

  • Pain while walking or standing

  • Visible or bulging veins

  • A known history of vascular disease or blood clots

These scans can also monitor recovery after vascular surgery or guide your care if you’re at higher risk for circulation problems.
